Aussie Open Starts the 2017 Season

The 2017 Disc Golf World Tour will make its first stop down under, at the 2017 Aussie Open. The tournament will be played at the venue of the 2015 Aussie Open, Mundaring DiscGolfPark near Perth, Western Australia. Perth is an energetic and vibrant city that offers a true Australian experience. It is also the sunniest capital city in Australia and thus embraces the outdoor lifestyle, which makes it the perfect place to get a head start to the 2017 season!

January is mid-summer in Australia, and a great place to enjoy the summer weather is at the Aussie Open tournament hotel, the Sorrento Beach resort. The hotel is across the road from the stunning white sands and turquoise waters of Sorrento Beach, one of 19 beautiful beaches within the Perth metropolitan area. The hotel offers discounted rates for Aussie Open visitors. Check here for more info about the hotel and the discount.

Perth is a vibrant, modern city that embraces the warm weather with sensational alfresco dining and unique small bars. Plenty of music and arts also fill the streets of Perth, especially in cultural hot spots like Northbridge, Subiaco and Fremantle. One of the city’s most prominent landmark is Kings Park & Botanical Gardens, which is one of the largest inner-city parks in the world. The recently opened Elizabeth Quay also offers expansive views of the Swan River, as well as waterfront cafes and restaurants, ferry docks, sculptures and a nature-inspired playground.

Championship level course

The Aussie Open will be played at the world-class, par 65, 3000m Mundaring DiscGolfPark in the Perth Hills. The course features rolling elevation, open and wooded fairways, and plenty of endemic Australian flora and fauna. As part of the Mundaring Disc Golf Club and Mundaring Sporting Club, the course has the best facilities in the southern hemisphere, including bathrooms with showers, media facilities, tournament HQ, club rooms, function rooms, full bar and catering facilities.

Season kicks off with PDGA Major

The Aussie Open is once again a PDGA Major and the Open division will for the first time be part of the Disc Golf World Tour and one of the four events that are part of the World Tour championship battle. The 2017 event will feature even more of the best disc golfers in the world. The tournament begins on Australia Day, January 26, and will be played over four days. Take advantage of this great opportunity to finally make the trip down under. You won’t regret it!
