Event Changes For the 2016 Disc Golf World Tour

Over the past two months the DGWT organization has been working relentlessly to finalize the inaugural Disc Golf World Tour dates and locations. Setting a schedule that maximizes the opportunity for the fans to witness the game’s elite competitors is a delicate balancing act for 2016. With that in mind here are some adjustments which we think will be beneficial not only for our tour, but for the sport in general.

Location change in Disc Golf World Tour event #3

Due to some scheduling conflicts, we’re going to postpone hosting a DGWT event in Tallinn, Estonia for now. We believe that Tallinn will be a great future site for our events, and we’ll revisit that opportunity when scheduling our 2017 season. For those interested in playing competitive disc golf in Estonia, there will be a EuroTour event on the schedule ahead of the DGWT’s European Masters Tour stop in July.

Instead of having event in Tallinn, we have agreed to run another European Open in Nokia in June 2-4. The Crown Jewel and most prestigious tournament held on European soil will be making an appearance on 2016 in place of the previously scheduled Tallinn Open. With the cancellations of the Japan Open and scheduling conflicts in Estonia, there’s no better place to move our DGWT event than into Nokia, Finland and onto the (in)famous course layout called The Beast. We are very excited to host this event, capitalizing on the popularity and record-setting exposure that the 2015 event received.

September 2016 DGWT Event cancelled

Another tough decision had to be made, as we received many requests to host our planned September US event from multiple qualified and quality promoters/groups. When we ultimately looked at the finalized schedules of our tour, the US-based Disc Golf Pro Tour, and the PDGA National Tour series we decided that creating a competition for players during an already busy month is ultimately not the best for the sport itself. We don’t view ourselves as in competition with these other tours, and though as we all grow scheduling overlap is inevitable, we want to try to avoid it for the first year while everybody adjusts to the new landscape of professional disc golf touring. We sincerely thank everyone for their input, and we will automatically roll over all requests we receive into consideration for the 2017 tour.
