Konopiště Open Round 1 Recap

While on the last practice day on Wednesday the weather was less than welcoming, the first tournament day started with an overcast that would turn into sunny skies as the day progressed. Even though the Franz Ferdinand course was still a bit wet and muddy from rainy Wednesday, the DiscGolfPark TeePads and calm weather ensured almost optimal scoring conditions for the first round of Konopiště Open.

And the scores we saw indeed were high quality. Today’s hottest rounds were pulled by the German distance and trick shot sensation Simon Lizotte and the Finnish Pro Jalle Stoor, who seems to have shaken off the shoulder injury that has been bothering him on the past two seasons.

The key to Simon’s hot round was his solid putting game. While his green hit percentage today was 33%, Simon was able to capitalize a 100% of his putts inside the circle and sunk a total of 5 outside the circle putts, the most OCP’s anyone on the field was able catch on round 1.

Jalle Stoor was able to hit more greens than any other competitor.

Jalle Stoor is the co-leader with 12 under for the day.

Returning a clean and bogey free scorecard, similar to Lizotte, was Jalle Stoor, who also was able to obtain a 100% inside the circle putting percentage on round 1. Besides the scoreboard, Jalle can also be found on high up on the green hit statistics with his 50% greens hit on the first 18 holes of the event. Both Jalle and Simon are standing on the tied 1st place at 12 under par going into Friday’s round.

Completing tomorrow’s lead card will be the Konopiště Open 2015 Champion, Danish Karl-Johan Nybo and Nate Sexton from USA. KJ’s solid 11 under for the day puts him in the sole 3rd place in the competition, while Sexton is tied with Finns Seppo Paju and Lassi Hakulinen as well as Estonian Silver Lätt, all standing at 10 under par. Sexton got the spot on the lead card based on his lowest PDGA number of the bunch.

Estonian Silver Lätt shot a very solid -10 today.

The 4-time World Champion Paul McBeth, who shot a beautiful ace on the 4th hole today, will be completing the 2nd card for tomorrow with 9 under par. Uncharacteristically, Paul was struggling with his putt today, and left a lot of birdie opportunities on the course.
